I’d been following Katie’s Instagram (@broadwaysignlanguage) for a couple of months before reaching out. Her bio said, “I make videos of songs from Broadway interpreted into sign language! I am not fluent or an interpreter- this is just for fun! Posts MWF 🤟🏻.”
She was such a light on my Instagram feed. I knew I’d have to come up with some kind of collaboration.
I reached out to Katie on January 28, 2021 and asked if she’d like to film a cover of our most popular song “I’m a ten” to be even more inclusive.
“Hi Katie! My name is Nicole Kohr and I am the writer and executive producer of ‘Fall Risk,’ a new musical comedy about chronic illness. We’re currently workshopping the show and inviting people to “demo” certain songs for us so that we can post them on social media. Would you like to participate? We would LOVE to have you and your signing as part of our campaign 🙂 let us know! ❤️”
She was excited about the opportunity and has been a part of the FALL RISK FAMILY ever since!
Katie’s video cover of “I’m a Ten” was one of the most popular videos in the FALL RISK DOCUMENTARY with hundreds of views between YouTube and social media.
Katie has continued to be a supporter of FALL RISK through donations and shares.
If you haven’t done so already, check out Katie’s IG. She even posts little segments called “Broadway Unboxing.” She’s the perfect IG page for any theater nerd or deaf/HOH/ASL community member.
