That's right! We're adopting!
A little reintroduction for those who don't know us
Hi! We’re Jared and Nicole, and we’re excited to expand our family through open adoption. We are a multi-generation household. Our mother (Nicole’s mom, Patty) lives in our home. Built-in grandma! We are licensed foster parents through the Craven County DSS as of October 2022, and we have cared for 11 children. Their ages ranged from 3 months old to 13 years old. Our current foster placement is 8 months old. He is a happy-go-lucky boy nicknamed “Baby K.” His long-term plan is reunification with his biological parents. We have two dogs – Lucy “Goosey” and Roxy. We’re also trained in several subjects: CPR, TIPPS-MAPPS, trauma responses, food hoarding, normalcy, prudent parenting, compassion fatigue, etc.
The Cost
The average cost of a domestic adoption in 2024 is $75,000. As of 7/1/24, we owe a balance of approximately…
$25,000
The Fundraiser
Our costs related to domestic adoption come to approximately $40,000. We’ve chipped away at the $40k total by acquiring one grant and several gofundme donations. Sadly, the remainer that will be due on “match day” is trickling in very slowly. For this reason, we’ve continuously delayed any possible matches. We’re quickly exhausting our personal resources, and many grants won’t be awarded until winter 2024. Some grants don’t even OPEN until August. Every financial delay equates to another missed match, and we’ve already turned down several potential matches. Fundraisers help bridge the gap between us and our future child.
The Timing: Once this check list is complete, we (the adoptive parents) are eligible to “go live” on our agency’s website. It’s at that point that we’re eligible to be chosen by a birth mother, or “matched.” The timing, however, is tricky. We can only apply for grants once we have an approved home study in hand. We have a handful of grants drafted and ready to launch, but… will the timing work out? Will we be awarded these grants? How many match opportunities will we miss out on in the interim?
Emotions: As long-term foster parents, we’ve grown accustomed to being the “for now” family. We’ve even been a support system and mentors to the biological parents. Although we adore fostering, our hearts break each time we have to say goodbye to a child. We are hopeful that adoption will allow us to welcome a child home permanently.
Call To Action: Thank you for taking the time to read our story. If there’s anything you can give, please do!

Why donate?
It’s Tuesday, June 14, 2024. Five years ago, Nicole underwent a bilateral lung transplant due to the progression of her cystic fibrosis. Present day, Nicole and her husband are experienced foster parents. They are home study approved and waiting to “go live” on their adoption agency’s website. Sadly, the average cost of a domestic adoption in 2024 is between $40,000 and $75,000+, so they’re hoping this community can lend a helping hand.
